St. Stephen Church hosts Family Honor workshop

Some Chattanooga Deanery families have taken advantage of a program aimed at preparing and empowering parents, the primary educators of their children, and church leaders to evangelize about the truth and meaning of God’s gift of sexuality.

St. Stephen Catholic Church in Chattanooga hosted a unique chastity program Feb. 7-8 that was presented by Family Honor Inc. called Real Love & Real Life. Parents and their seventh- and eighth-grade sons and daughters seized the opportunity to connect and communicate about God’s gift of sexuality, chastity, dating and marriage, fertility appreciation, friendships and more.

Family Honor, which equips parents with the tools needed to have ongoing conversations with their children about important moral and spiritual issues and aids them in living happy, healthy and holy lives, shared the good news because today’s culture is confused about the dignity of life, confused about family, and confused about God’s gift of sexuality. More than 30 families attended the program along with 33 teens.

“It opened a door for me that wasn’t open before between my daughter and me. I definitely feel more comfortable and confident discussing chastity with her,” said one parent on what they liked most about the program.

In the 25 years since Family Honor Inc. was established, the organization has grown to fill the many needs expressed by parents, decision-makers in faith communities, adolescents, young adults, and many other adults who want to do something positive in their own community. In addition to family-centered programming and a college-level course for those who are interested in becoming chastity presenters, the organization also is able to offer a wider variety of educational resources than before.

Family Honor has been recognized as a Catholic organization in the Diocese of Charleston by Bishop Robert E. Guglielmone and has been endorsed by Archbishop Wilton Gregory of the Archdiocese of Atlanta.

Family Honor can establish chapters in each U.S. diocese and can become the trusted source for parents and families on the topics of sexuality and chastity, based on the authoritative teachings of the Catholic Church.

The organization also helps change the culture through a variety of age-appropriate, on-site, parent-child programs; dynamic and in-depth online college-level courses; and relevant, timely and easily accessible resources.
