Paulist associates begin new assignments

The Paulist Fathers, who minister at Immaculate Conception Church and St. John XXIII University  Parish and Catholic Center in Knoxville, have assigned two new associate pastors to those parishes.

Father Robert J. O’Donnell, CSP, 67, will succeed Father Rich Andre, CSP, as associate pastor at St. John XXIII. The Paulist Fathers assigned Father Andre as associate pastor of St. Austin Parish in Austin, Texas. Father O’Donnell has been serving as a campus minister at Holy Spirit Parish/Newman Hall in Berkeley, Calif., for the last three years.

Prior to that, Father O’Donnell served as a campus minister at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, the University of Minnesota, and the University of Connecticut. He was pastor at the Paulists’ mother church in New York City from 2002 to 2005, and he has served the Paulist community in various posts, including associate director of formation, first consultor, and vice president. In addition to his seminary degree, he holds a master’s degree in American history from the University of Connecticut and a Ph.D. in religious studies from the Catholic University of America. He is originally from Brooklyn, N.Y.

Father Timothy F. Sullivan, CSP, 65, succeeds Father Gerard Tully, CSP, as associate pastor of Immaculate Conception. Father Tully has been assigned as associate pastor at St. Paul the Apostle Church in Los Angeles.

Father Sullivan has served as pastor of St. Patrick Church in Memphis and St. Peter Church in Toronto. He also was associate pastor in Paulist parishes in Houston and New York, and campus minister at Ohio State University in Columbus.

He holds a master’s degree in social work and worked with Diocese of Memphis Bishop J. Terry Steib, SVD, in Catholic Charities efforts in West Tennessee. Father Sullivan grew up in Norwood, Mass., near Boston. He recently completed a sabbatical year at the Paulist House in Boston.

The new assignments for Father Sullivan and Father O’Donnell began July 1.

  1. When is your next meeting? I would like to be apart of Paulist Associates.
    I currently attend Immaculate Conception Church and have spoken with Fr. Tim about the group and has encouraged me to do so.
    You still meet don’t you.
