Dan Barile, former assistant editor of The East Tennessee Catholic dies

Dan Barile, former assistant editor of The East Tennessee Catholic, died suddenly Dec. 21. He was 64.

Mr. Barile served as assistant editor of the Diocese of Knoxville newspaper from 1992 to 1995, serving under the paper’s first editor, Ed Miller.

When he passed away, Mr. Barile had served as editor and publisher of the Farragut Press for more than 13 years, with almost 20 years of experience as a professional photographer and general assignment reporter.

He was a Vietnam veteran and New York native, well-known in the Farragut community for his journalistic professionalism, intelligence, honesty, and sharp wit, according to the Farragut Press.

He joined The East Tennessee Catholic after earning his master’s degree in communications with a focus on news/editorial from the University of Tennessee in 1992. He also served as photographer for the University of Tennessee CVM Photo Lab in 2000-2001 and as publicity director for the UT School of Music in 2001-2003.

He received his undergraduate degree in communications from UT-Chattanooga in 1989 and earned certification as a professional photographer from the New York Institute of Photography in 1988.
