(Central Time) Losing a loved one, whether through unexpected or anticipated circumstances, is always traumatic. This is especially true with the death of a spouse. It is one of life’s most profound losses. The transition from wife to widow or husband to widower is a very real, painful, and personal phenomenon. The trauma of trying to adjust to this new identity while being besieged with a multitude of urgent questions and decisions can be overwhelming.
To help the widowed accept their changed state in life, St. Alphonsus parish in Crossville is offering a Day of Reflection for Widows and Widowers on Thursday, Nov. 8, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (CT)  Sessions will be led by Monsignor Xavier Mankel, vicar general for the Diocese of Knoxville and pastor of Holy Ghost Church in Knoxville, and Paul Simoneau, director of the Office of Justice and Peace for the diocese. Monsignor Mankel will provide spiritual guidance and insight to applicable Scripture passages, and Mr. Simoneau will speak on the value of redemptive suffering and will give practical suggestions for end-of-life issues from a Catholic perspective.  The day will include lunch and a social hour, and opportunities for confession and Mass. Any widowed parishioners from throughout the diocese are welcome to attend.
