16 student athletes from Notre Dame, KCHS sign with colleges

Notre Dame High School had a record seven student athletes sign college scholarships to play football on National Signing Day, Feb. 4. Nine student athletes from Knoxville Catholic High School and seven from Notre Dame High School signed letters of intent with colleges on Feb. 4, which was National Signing Day.

Family, friends, and coaches joined the students at the schools as they signed letters that were immediately faxed to their school of choice.

It was a record-breaking signing day at Notre Dame in Chattanooga, with seven football players signing scholarship offers. Notre Dame football coach Charles Fant noted that the four-year total of the seven scholarships totaled $987,000.

The Notre Dame student athletes committing to colleges were Kareem Orr to Arizona State University, Joe Dossett to East Tennessee State University, Kealey Green and Joshua Russell to Cumberland University, William Montgomery to Jacksonville University, Auston Banks to Kennesaw State, and AJ Flemister to Tennessee Tech.

football; Ashley Hickman with the University of Cincinnati in soccer; Morgan Briggs with Wake Forest University in soccer; Delaney Lowery with Maryville College in basketball; Allie McLaughlin with the University of Minnesota at Morris in basketball; Mike Fitzgerald with Maryville College in baseball; and Elise Klug with Tennessee Wesleyan College in lacrosse.

The nine KCHS students join five others who signed early commitments Nov. 12: Christen Torres with the University of Memphis in softball, MacKenzie Jackson with Lindsey Wilson College in softball, Anika Sichelstiel with Queens University of Charlotte in lacrosse, Kyle Cottam with the University of Kentucky in baseball, and Ethan Elliott with Lincoln Memorial University in baseball.
